The Great Blue Hole is only the beginning. This full-day Lighthouse Reef trip combines Belize's most famous dive with two spectacular reef dives and a visit to Half Moon Caye.
The trip combines three very different underwater environments across Lighthouse Reef Atoll.
Descend into Belize's world-famous Great Blue Hole for the deepest dive of the day. Because of the depth and no-decompression limits, this dive is intentionally shorter than the reef dives that follow.
After the Blue Hole, continue to Half Moon Caye Wall for a more traditional reef dive featuring coral formations, marine life and the dramatic edge of Lighthouse Reef.
Your final dive takes place at Long Caye Aquarium, giving you one more opportunity to experience the diversity of Lighthouse Reef before beginning the journey home.
This is a full offshore dive day. Plan for an early start and approximately eleven hours from check-in to return.
Check in, prepare and fit equipment, meet the dive team and enjoy a light continental breakfast.
Begin the approximately 2.5-hour offshore journey to Lighthouse Reef Atoll.
Complete the deepest and most technical recreational dive of the day.
Transition from the Blue Hole to a colorful Lighthouse Reef wall dive.
Enjoy a Belizean lunch and spend time ashore at Half Moon Caye before the final dive.
Complete the day's final reef dive at Lighthouse Reef.
Settle in for the offshore journey back to Ambergris Caye.
Arrive back in San Pedro after approximately eleven hours of diving and travel.
The Great Blue Hole dive reaches depths of up to approximately 130 ft / 40 m. Because of the depth, divers need a recent dive at minimum, appropriate certification and approval from the BPDC dive team.
Divers must be at least 15 years old to participate in the deep Blue Hole dive.
Open Water certification or equivalent is required. Advanced Open Water certification is strongly recommended.
You should have completed a logged dive within the previous 6 months.
Divers should have recent experience reaching depths of at least approximately 80 ft / 24 m.
If it has been more than 6 months since your last dive, BPDC may require a local assessment dive before approving participation in the Great Blue Hole trip.
A Local 1 Tank Dive trip can satisfy this assessment requirement.
View the 1-Tank Local Dive →Certification alone does not automatically guarantee participation in the 130 ft / 40 m portion of the Blue Hole dive. Safety, recent experience and diver readiness are considered before the dive.
Divers who choose not to complete the deep Great Blue Hole dive may snorkel at the Blue Hole instead.
When certification and experience requirements are met, you may still join the approximately 60 ft / 18 m dives at Half Moon Caye Wall and Long Caye Aquarium later in the day.
Lighthouse Reef is considerably farther offshore than our local dive sites, so the boat and safety equipment are an important part of the experience.
