Do I have to be certified to join a certified dive?
Yes. Bring proof that you are at least Open Water certified through a recognized training agency. If you are not certified, ask about Discover Scuba Diving or a certification course.
What can I do if I am not certified?
You can begin with a supervised Discover Scuba Diving experience or enroll in a PADI certification course. No prior dive experience is required for the introductory option.
How is the PADI Open Water course scheduled?
BPDC currently describes the practical training as two half days, with online academics completed before arrival. Confirm dates, prerequisites and the exact schedule before booking.
Can I combine certification training with a Blue Hole trip?
No. BPDC does not combine certification training with the Blue Hole trip. Once certified and appropriately prepared, you can ask whether the trip is suitable for you.
How long is the boat ride to the Great Blue Hole?
BPDC publishes an approximate travel time of 2.5 hours each way. Actual travel time depends on weather and sea conditions.
Does BPDC run dive trips every day?
BPDC is open year-round and schedules diving daily, weather permitting. Trips may be changed or canceled when conditions are unsafe.
What time of year is best for diving in Belize?

How far are the local dive sites?
Many local sites are about 8 to 10 minutes away by boat. Offshore destinations such as Lighthouse Reef and Turneffe are full-day outings.
Can a solo traveler join a dive?
Yes. Solo divers can join scheduled trips. BPDC publishes a maximum of six divers per guide, subject to the needs and experience of the group.
Do the boats have bathrooms?
BPDC states that its offshore boats have bathrooms. Local sites are only minutes away and guests can use onsite facilities around those departures.
How deep are local two-tank dives?
BPDC describes a typical first dive near 80 feet and a second near 60 feet, both as multilevel dives with a three-minute safety stop. The actual profile is set by conditions, training, experience and the guide.
How many dives are on the Blue Hole tour?
The published itinerary includes three dives: the Great Blue Hole, Half Moon Caye Wall and the Aquarium. The Blue Hole dive may reach 130 feet; the other two are described around 60 feet.
